Ballad of Little Jo / High Noon - Mark Miller

Ballad of Little Jo and High Noon are very two western films that a unique in the fact that that both feature strong female characters. In High Noon, there are two strong female characters. Amy, the wife of Will Kane, is a very strong independent women, and Helen Ramirez, a business woman from mexico, who constantly shows her strength as a women, as she has a male assistant. High Noon does a great job to portray the way role that women are moving towards in the nineteen-fifties, as we see women playing more active roles in everyday life. The Ballad of Little Jo is a movie that promotes women in power. The Ballad of Little Jo is about a woman, Josephine Monaghan, who takes complete control over her life, by dressing up as a man. This movie shows how suppressed woman are in the nineteen hundreds as Josephine does not feel comfortable and safe traveling alone—however, it also shows how powerful a women can be, as Josephine is able to stop Percy from raping her by drawing her gun upon him.
